Evacuation.
MISSION START
It's taken a while, but for all intents and purposes, you seem to be back on track; the town you've been sent to investigate isn't far off now. Beyond a crest, just down one of the wooded hills; as you make your way, the strange wildlife watches you. Nothing much. Just one of those deer.
You get the feeling that something always seems to be watching you nowadays. This feeling isn't wrong.
The top of that hillcrest will reveal the town itself, sprawling out below in your line of sight; however, it will soon become obvious that there's something deeply wrong with it. What you're seeing and what you know of the town tell two completely different stories; it's up to you to decide which you believe.
But what your eyes are telling you is that the town is overgrown, the forest reclaiming it for its own – the streets are cracked and broken, grass and shoots of flowers poking up from the roads and the pavement; the ground is thick with fallen leaves, and the buildings seem to have a bright yellow moss growing over them in places. There are residences that seem oddly undisturbed, as though their occupants simply disappeared all at once; given that the town was allegedly evacuated, perhaps that stands to reason.
What doesn't is that this level of growth would take more than a week or two to develop. Maybe you'll find survivors. Maybe you won't. It's worth looking around, either way.
Perhaps it'll be worth your while, in the end.

What's behind Drawer Number Two?]

It's a diary! It looks like it's fairly new, and if you flip through it you'll find that there aren't all that many entries. Want to be nosy and read through it?]

So what do we have here? Is it....aliens [2]?]

Damn government wants us to leave. Said the Shimmer's gonna take over the town soon. Evacuation order's been placed. Some of us aren't leaving, no point in running away. I'm staying here and defending my home come hell or high water.
Shimmer's here. Doesn't feel any different. Doesn't seem any different. Couple of fools already went and lost their heads, screaming about how we're all gonna die in here. They didn't prepare and stock up. I'm safe here, even if the rest of them aren't.
There's been gatherings at the church lately. Some of them have moved in. Won't say what they're doing there, but it doesn't seem right. Those who aren't going to the church have talked about moving to the store. Could be a good idea, though there's no point in moving when all my stuff's here.
Those people at the church are worshiping the Shimmer. Talking like it's God, like it's something they can understand and see and hear. I keep hearing things too, but it's not God. It sounds like a man's voice, but I can't make out the words. Sometimes I think I see things too. I'm just letting their bullshit get to me, that's all.
Getting ready to move. no point in staying here. I've got more guns than the rest of them combined I'll be fine if i'm staying with them. I got more food too. they can't hurt me. So i'll be okay. Just can't stay here any longer i keep seeing him. if I'm away from it it'll be fine.
moved most of it not much left now
can't remember why im writing
need to go
The writing abruptly shifts from something you understand to a language you can't read. If you've seen the strange notes Heinwald was given or if you kept notes and saw your own bizarre handwriting after losing a week, you'll notice that it matches those notes. It's obviously in this person's handwriting, but there's no determining exactly what all the rest of this says.]

Page takes the time to read the diary thoroughly, repeating the entries she actually understands, before giving that mystery section as good of an attempt as she can. But it's pointless; the only conclusion she can successfully draw is that it's the same language as that book of notes Heinwald showed her at Vitali's party. Hmmm.
Either way, the slow decline of the diary's author makes the hairs on the back of her neck stand up, so she'll quickly place both it and the scrapbook in her pack (along with a handful of pens, because...well, why not).
Are there any more drawers to investigate?]

And nope, that's it! You've cleared out the desk and Garma's cleared out the boxes, so you guys are free to explore the rest of the house! But thankfully(?) there isn't actually anything else to find there, you guys just went immediately for the basement where all the info is and cut this investigation short!! Feel free to head out to regroup with your friends or be traumatized by whatever they've found, have fun!]
