WEEK TWO
SECOND WEEK
A new day dawns bright as you leave the town behind you; the map you've found is simple, easy to follow, and perhaps most importantly it's the only lead you have.
And besides, it takes you closer to the source of the Shimmer's influence; that alone may make it worthwhile.
The through the woods leading up the mountain is one that seems to have been taken before, though it's difficult to tell how long ago; the long grass seems to have been tamed in some ways, tamped down and trod upon, and the presence of odd flowers remains constant. They seem to obey no season, growing out among the grass and the trees high overhead.
Though it's worth noting that you don't seem to be alone here; occasionally there's a silence that sweeps over the area, the sort of dead quiet that accompanied your initial approach to the Shimmer. The sort of silence that implies a predator in the area.
Checking will reveal exactly that.
It seems as though something has been stalking you - cougars from the woods have come down toward the group, and while they keep their distance for now, that may not hold true for the rest of the week...
You hear things in the night.
It sounds like humans screaming.
SUNDAY | MONDAY |
TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY
[OOC: Welcome to the second week of The Shimmer! Unlike the deer and the other wildlife you've seen so far, the cougars that are tracking you are hostile - you are free to interact with them in any way you see fit, but they will react as a cougar would and they are entirely willing to try to attack the group. While we will not be NPCing these encounters, you are welcome to do as you like with regards to their presence, including fighting them off.]

Are you used to spearing big cats, then, or was that just pure confidence?
[She's getting the feeling it's likely the latter....but you never know.....]
no subject
At least he didn't yell Leeroy Jenkins, eh?]Why not both?
[ #Helpful. ]
I already guessed you were probably a good shot, but I'm guessing your experience would come from something having to do with that job you had back home?
[ The little profile descriptions did list occupations, after all. ]

[Although she's not sure it's fair to compare Balverines with regular animals, but the point stands. At the end of the day, if they're clearly vicious and wanting to kill her, the guns need to come out.
...
...speaking of occupations, by the way...]
In terms of jobs, I do have to ask what kind of master you serve; most servants I know don't tend to be handy with spears.
no subject
[ That said, he wasn't all that interested in putting away (for lack of a better term) his spear nonetheless, given that they're still in dangerous territory out here. ]
What kind of master I serve? Eh...that's a complicated question. She can be rather difficult to deal with, but it is what it is.
I'll also tell you I picked up how to use weapons a long time before I ever met her or any other Master I served before her. I've obviously a preference over spears than something as modern as that gun of yours, but to each their own, right?

[Frankly, that's a bizarre story (why be a mere servant when he's clearly talented enough to be a mercenary, which would earn far more gold...the ways of Fate/ escape her), but Page isn't going to question it. 'Bizarre' is the order of the day, in terms of happenings, so one group member's odd backstory isn't going to make her blink too much of an eye. He knows how to use his weapon, and that's all she could ask for.
Speaking of which, Page has been staring at that wound his spear left in the side of the cougar.]
...do you think it's worth having a closer look at this creature? I've never seen anything like it before.
[Not too many cougars in Ye Old Fantasy England.]

He's not expecting the woman's question, but... he won't find anything objectionable about it. There were things people could find out by examining dead bodies, though in this case he supposed that it'd be even more important on the researching side of things. Or something. ]
Might as well. I could even open it up some more if you want?
[ He doubted there was much they could observe from just a stab wound and a gun shot, hence the offer. ]
no subject
[...well. She's definitely curious.]
Open it up a little bit more. Let's have a look.
mods??? this was an impromptu investigation ig or something??
[ With a swipe of his spear, he definitely opened up the cougar much more so that she could see everything...inside. So that's going to probably not look nice, but, you know...what exactly would they be looking at here? Anything unusual? ]

At first glance, it might be hard to tell what's off, at least without a lot of experience with larger cats and what their insides should look like. But it's probably noticable after enough staring that the heart seems to be enlarged, and the lungs and larynx seem strangely-developed - not human in appearance, but not precisely animal, either.
There is no moss or other plant life present inside the animal, nor are there crystallizations. There is, however, the fact where the inner digestive workings of it - the stomach, the intestines, the liver and kidneys, all of it - all seem underdeveloped, if they're present at all.
...This thing has less than half the working organs that it should, in other words.]
no subject
...is it just me, or does that...not look quite right to you?
[Really, it's...kind of hard to look away from. As if only half the organs grew, and...well. Grew they did.]
no subject
...It definitely looks weird as all hell. Don't have to be a doctor to notice that.
no subject
...shouldn't there be more in this [-she'll indicate the stomach area with said stick-] section? It's...so bare.
[Like. Again, not a doctor, not a vet, but pretty sure you actually need organs in the lower part of your torso, regardless of what species you are.]
no subject
[ Because when all else fails blame it on the Shimmer. ]
