WEEK TWO
SECOND WEEK
A new day dawns bright as you leave the town behind you; the map you've found is simple, easy to follow, and perhaps most importantly it's the only lead you have.
And besides, it takes you closer to the source of the Shimmer's influence; that alone may make it worthwhile.
The through the woods leading up the mountain is one that seems to have been taken before, though it's difficult to tell how long ago; the long grass seems to have been tamed in some ways, tamped down and trod upon, and the presence of odd flowers remains constant. They seem to obey no season, growing out among the grass and the trees high overhead.
Though it's worth noting that you don't seem to be alone here; occasionally there's a silence that sweeps over the area, the sort of dead quiet that accompanied your initial approach to the Shimmer. The sort of silence that implies a predator in the area.
Checking will reveal exactly that.
It seems as though something has been stalking you - cougars from the woods have come down toward the group, and while they keep their distance for now, that may not hold true for the rest of the week...
You hear things in the night.
It sounds like humans screaming.
SUNDAY | MONDAY |
TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY
[OOC: Welcome to the second week of The Shimmer! Unlike the deer and the other wildlife you've seen so far, the cougars that are tracking you are hostile - you are free to interact with them in any way you see fit, but they will react as a cougar would and they are entirely willing to try to attack the group. While we will not be NPCing these encounters, you are welcome to do as you like with regards to their presence, including fighting them off.]

afternoon
I can't say it was, unless you count sittin' in camp doin' nothing in particular exciting.
What were you doing out there, anyway? You were gone a long time.
no subject
Killin' the things that've been stalking us for awhile now!
[ He seemed entirely too happy to talk of such things in the first place, but hey. ]
I'd say you should try it, but you're not a fighter, so it'd be best if you didn't.
no subject
[Look, the only cougars he's interested in hunting are...
Never mind.]
I think I'll be leavin' that to the professionals.
no subject
It's a good thing you are. We've all got our parts to play and all that.
no subject
The Shimmer ain't exactly in any of the books in my family's library.
no subject
[ It said he's a novelist, but you know. ]
no subject
Maybe I should have read more of the books in the family library, but most of 'em are in German, and I barely know any of the language.
no subject
[ You can't know about just cult magic without knowing about cults, after all. ]
Either way, I'm sure it'll be fine. The Shimmer doesn't really seem like it'd be something hidden in anyone's knowledge collection or whatever before we started journeying.
You're a Novelist, right? I'm sure that'll make you easily able to note things in great detail than others, anyway.
no subject
[....honestly, Gabriel's surprised that's what Lancer would focus on.]
I am, yeah, but I'm here because I'm the Schattenjäger, if I'm bein' honest. Just finished a case not so long ago.
no subject
[ He found that knowledge interesting, in a way. Even if he'd say he wasn't interesting in researching or a bookish kind of person. ]
...The whosawhatsit?
no subject
[okay that's the first time he's said that aloud and it sounds kinda weird]
The first one's my real one. Means "shadow hunter" in German.
no subject
[ ...he still didn't know what it was, though. He thought it maybe had something to do with being a novelist. Maybe?
He's not German, admittedly so he didn't know jack squat evidently... ]
...I'm going to take a guess that doesn't mean you go around hunting 'shadows', right? That'd sound too literal here.
no subject
It's something of a family business, I guess. Goes back centuries. Before comin' here, I was working on a case that involved werewolves.
no subject
[ As in, Gabriel didn't look like a combatant, but he kind of presumed that you would need to have to fight to be a monster hunter and take on werewolves, of all things. ]
no subject
I've barely been at the job for a year.
no subject
You haven't gotten anyone to train you, eh?
no subject
[Presumably, he means the one around his neck.]
All my training has been the on-the-job sort.
no subject
...Right. He sounds like he was a respectable man. I'm sure things would've been difficult without it.
[ He just literally heard only a little about this guy and it was just now that he had and already he thought this. ]
Well, if ya ever want a refresher on some combat skills, let me know. We're really in the thick of things right now, but it can't hurt to get in some extra training. Hell, it could even be at the end of all this, if you'd like.
