THE TOWN SQUARE.

[Page silently watches the church burn for a little while, once she's emerged safely from it, before turning away and heading to the town square to meet up with everyone else. It makes sense to rest here, as they did last week, after another town with another tragic story to tell.

At least that time, however, they'd all survived it unscathed.

Once she's made it over to the group, she drops her pack onto the ground and collapses next to it, staring at her feet. It's going to take a bit to...process all of that, and while she'd love to get up in front of everyone and make some kind of rousing speech, she just doesn't have it in her at the moment.

Instead, she'll look up from the stone of the square, eventually, casting her eye over everyone and saying (almost to herself)-]

...I hope everyone is all right.

[That is likely far from true, but...well. They're all alive, Wesker is dead, and that's something. She's trying her best not to look at that little tree-sculpture with the key around its neck.

OOC: Second verse, same as the first! Here's our post-event mingle post, to talk about what the hell just happened in there, lick our wounds, and beg forgiveness from...from Flower Girl. Top-level away; Page will have her own up, if you'd like to talk to her.]

Well, he was basically just a walking corpse. It's good he can't come back now.

[For a moment he's almost weirdly intense... but he turns back to Hanneman with the same easy smile as always.]

That just means we'll have to find a different way to contact the Shimmer itself, ja?

[Preferably one that involves less talking corpses and moss.]

...yes, indeed.

[...hm. Does he want to pry... is it relevant... maybe he will pry some other time.

Regardless...]

I do wonder if we will find a more agreeable representative, honestly. Our own goals are fundamentally opposed to its goals, so it isnโ€™t as though we can ask it politely to stop spreading.

...I do wonder about that bit of the Shimmer that left, though.

You certainly have a point there. It seems unlikely we'll find some way to communicate with it that won't end poorly somehow, but at this point I think anything would be better than that.

[But Hanneman's certainly said something interesting there and Yeager inclines his head a bit.]

A part of the Shimmer left? What do you mean?

Hopefully the next iteration will not have a gun and some restraint...

[GRUMBLE GRUMBLE...]

In any case, Wesker mentioned that the group that survived and managed to leave the Shimmer took a part of it with them.

They took a part of it with them... Like plant samples of some kind or something else?

[He's not entirely sure what he's supposed to be imagining here, but it's kind of hard to assume that something so small would be worth mentioning. Then again, this is the Shimmer we're talking about, and who knows how the Shimmer works.]

Vitali never mentioned anything like that, did she? I wonder if she knew...

He wasn't really specific. He did say it wasn't growing, apparently, so that's perhaps a bit comforting... but who knows.

[He puts a hand to his chin and ponders...]

There are quite a few things Vitali didn't tell us, though, so I cannot say I am particularly surprised.
scythegun: (SHRUG 2 โ‡ the shruggening)

It certainly does seem like she withheld a good amount of information from us. I wonder why.

[Not that he's particularly surprised by an employer withholding important information, that's just A Thing That Happens.]

Well, no sense in thinking about that now.
crestological: a frowny face. (but my RESEARCH)

[personal profile] crestological 2020-08-04 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
It really is difficult to say, really. I imagine there is some agenda at play there, but... surely they wouldnโ€™t go through the effort of recruiting people from other worlds if they only expected us to die here.

[so whatโ€™s actually going on? HMMMMM...]

...even if there is no sense in it, it will likely continue to bother me anyway.
scythegun: (DECISION โ‡ you're totally fucked)

[personal profile] scythegun 2020-08-04 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
That's fair, most of the researchers here seem like the sort to dislike this sort of thing! Who knows, maybe we'll get a chance to question her once this is all over.

[Assuming we don't all die horribly, that is!!!!]

I do hope so. Granted, it may be more worth our while to just seek the answers ourselves instead of trying to get any out of her...
scythegun: (OHH โ‡)

[personal profile] scythegun 2020-08-05 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Hah, that's certainly true! She does seem like the sort to keep everything to herself... Perhaps we'll learn all we need to here!
crestological: hanneman fist-pumping enthusiastically! (AH EXCELLENT...!)

[personal profile] crestological 2020-08-05 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
I hope so as well! ...and if not, hopefully we can extrapolate to make some reasonably accurate conclusions!
