WEEK THREE
THIRD WEEK
While very few things have been made entirely clear since you've been here, one thing certainly seems to have been: there are no more survivors. There's no one else to watch out for, but there's no one that you're going to be able to save, either.
You are truly and utterly on your own.
With two of your number injured, it's likely that this isn't a welcome thought; it also means that the going may be slower than anyone would really like. Unfortunate, as this is where the hike starts becoming more difficult; it isn't particularly treacherous - there are no steep dropoffs or cliffs to be wary of, and it is still hiking more than climbing - but the paths are becoming steeper, requiring more exertion to traverse. It will give you time, however, to pay attention to your surroundings, and the way they start to shift around you - almost as though in response to your presence itself.
It's simple things at first - a familiar flower, a plant you used to see all the time back home. Perhaps it will even feel nostalgic for a moment before you realize that it has no business being here. Some of the changes are small - glasswing butterflies with wings the shades and colors of real stained glass, beetles with their hard backs glittering in jewel tones that serve no real purpose. Occasionally the bark of the nearby trees have cracked open, wood splitting to reveal inner mechanisms and gears like clockwork.
Some of the changes are reflected in you as well - or perhaps Wesker's words simply have you thinking too much. The notion that the Shimmer resides in you seems impossible; after all, you don't feel any different.
It begs the question, though.
Have your fingerprints always moved like that?

I must be imagining things... [He'll just...hurriedly put his gloves back on, thanks.]
[But there's something more curious that's gotten his attention over the past few days. The trees, peeling away to reveal gears and other metal mechanisms. He can't help but think of the Planetary Particle, the rare discovery he was named after, a particle that bound others to it like gears in a machine. Perpetual motion, unrelenting, unchanging, creating Momentum, that strange, almost mystical source of energy that he's become so familiar with over the years. That bright, glimmering force...not dissimilar to Wesker's oddly shimmering blood(?), he supposes.
So during the hike, Yusei manages to find a smaller tree with its bark split open. And...he'll take the chance to try and rip the bark apart further, to see if there's a chance he can try and take the tree's inner workings apart. He's not sure how familiar this will look to him - but it's certainly a start.]

even if it is really weird trying to take this out from inside a tree of all things]

That said, as soon as it's removed from the tree itself, the mechanism simply stops working - as though whatever power source it was attached to has abruptly shut off or been taken out.]
no subject
He also looks back inside the tree to see if the rest of what's inside is still normal - is there anything leaking? any abnormalities? anything still moving? or is it still just a Tree, With Gears, I Guess.]
no subject
The rest of what's inside seems to be seeping a bit, but it seems a bit on par with, well, the fluids one would expect to find within a damaged tree. It's not oil or - god forbid - blood or anything like that. It doesn't seem to be moving any in there, either - there are still gears and the like attached, but they've also ceased functioning.]
no subject
He's also going to collect some of that fluid...tree sap...whatever. Because again, he has no way of knowing whether it really is normal or not.
This mechanism, though...Yusei's absolutely going to try and take it apart and document it once they stop for the night, yes.]
breakfast
Good morning, Yusei! Ready for another day of hiking?
no subject
He pulls one glove on while the other one dangles from between his teeth, a casual gesture that somehow looks hurried. But...ew, Yusei, you know what those greasy things have been touching, right...? have you ever washed those? gross. ya nasty.]
Mnf? Yesh... [give him a second, let him take that out of his mouth] Felicia.
no subject
Sorry about that! I didn't think I was going to catch you in the middle of something. [...] You do look a little silly with your glove like that, though--should I leave you to it until you're ready?
no subject
I wasn't really doing anything important, just getting ready to leave. You just caught me when I was...thinking.
[that's a nice way to put "mulling over these weird as fuck changes to ya body," boyo]
no subject
You must've been pretty deep in thought, then...what's on your mind, Yusei? Do you want to talk about it?
no subject
He stares down at his hand, despite the glove already being on.]
...Do you think that something is already happening to us...?
no subject
Well, if Yusei's this worried about it...Felicia honestly hesitates for a moment, not sure if she should say anything. She is definitely worried about how he'd react, but all the same...]
...I think so, yes. Did you find something wrong with you?
no subject
[Yusei keeps staring at the gloved hand, before reluctantly taking the glove back off.
The fingerprints are still moving in that almost hypnotic way.]
no subject
...You're not just seeing things.
[Felicia holds out her own hand to him, and sure enough, her fingerprints are also moving in the same manner.]
It's been happening to me too. Among other things.
