WEEK THREE
THIRD WEEK
While very few things have been made entirely clear since you've been here, one thing certainly seems to have been: there are no more survivors. There's no one else to watch out for, but there's no one that you're going to be able to save, either.
You are truly and utterly on your own.
With two of your number injured, it's likely that this isn't a welcome thought; it also means that the going may be slower than anyone would really like. Unfortunate, as this is where the hike starts becoming more difficult; it isn't particularly treacherous - there are no steep dropoffs or cliffs to be wary of, and it is still hiking more than climbing - but the paths are becoming steeper, requiring more exertion to traverse. It will give you time, however, to pay attention to your surroundings, and the way they start to shift around you - almost as though in response to your presence itself.
It's simple things at first - a familiar flower, a plant you used to see all the time back home. Perhaps it will even feel nostalgic for a moment before you realize that it has no business being here. Some of the changes are small - glasswing butterflies with wings the shades and colors of real stained glass, beetles with their hard backs glittering in jewel tones that serve no real purpose. Occasionally the bark of the nearby trees have cracked open, wood splitting to reveal inner mechanisms and gears like clockwork.
Some of the changes are reflected in you as well - or perhaps Wesker's words simply have you thinking too much. The notion that the Shimmer resides in you seems impossible; after all, you don't feel any different.
It begs the question, though.
Have your fingerprints always moved like that?

Lancer's watching Yeager's expression carefully, and it's plain as day that something's off about it. But...hm, he'll look back at the flowers.
Well, he's probably going to be a little bit of an idiot about it, but joking around might help be a distraction, or it won't. ]
...Because they're really pretty and you've got a taste for nice lookin' flowers? Well, if that's the case, I won't tell. Your secret's safe with me!

[he says, like he wasn't wearing a flower crown after the confrontation with wesker......]
I'd appreciate that, Lancer!
[It's easy to take the out, but Lancer wouldn't offer it in the first place if he didn't see that something's off which is... something. Yeager's not really sure what to make of it, honestly.]

fire lilliesflowers. ]Hey, what're pals for?
[ Going to see about a light clap on the shoulder if the other will allow him that. ]
Or allies. But eh, right now allies and pals are the same thing since we're trusting each other with our lives on this whole thing.
no subject
Ja, of course! "Pals" certainly does have a much nicer ring to it than allies, anyway!
no subject
See? You get it.
Well, that aside, I guess I can say I've got a liking to at least a kind of flower myself. I think I managed to spot it before I came over your way. Want to come with so you can give it a look?
no subject
I would, yes! Lead the way!
[It's another out, and he doesn't really like that Lancer's read him like a book to know to offer it, but at this point he'll take it. Anything is better than having half a feeling right now.]

Anyway, it appears that Lancer hadn't been just making things up as he went, because he did actually lead Yeager over to some flowers. They don't appear to be flashy, and could easily blend well into the background of other white flowers, bushes, and the like. So people would be forgiven for overlooking the meadowsweet, or otherwise known as silver rush. ]
Annnd here we are! It almost makes me kind of nostalgic too and kinda tempted to pick some, but I've no need for it here, plus it bein' part of the Shimmer makes me want to just leave it. But, it's real nice to look at, if you've noticed.

[Sure, they're closer to the rest of the flowers here than the obnoxiously bright and strange fire lilies, but they're so dainty!! How cute...]
Agreed on that, certainly. Who knows what the Shimmer's done to them... They may look perfectly normal, but the trees have some strange mechanisms inside, so I doubt they're actually perfectly normal flowers.
[What a good distraction!!! Well done, Lancer.]
no subject
Yeah, they sure do.
[ ... ]
...I'd been thinking the Shimmer only messed around with organic stuff, but you know shit's gettin' weird when you see whatever the hell's in those trees.
no subject
[Including plants from their homes. Who knows what else it could end up doing?]
Things certainly could be worse, at least.
[Though tbh he kind of misses fighting cougars..........]
no subject
[ His mind sure went places.
Anyway, his brain came back to thinking critically. Kind of. ]
Oh, right. Yeah, things sure could be; though things did escalate for a second a few days back. Going from cougars to fighting somebody fused with the Shimmer, that was pretty exciting in of itself.
[ And none of them died, so that's another plus! He too misses fighting the cougars as well, though. ]
no subject
Exciting's one word for it.
[...Considering that he was waiting outside making flower crowns when you guys exited the church, he clearly doesn't exactly agree with that.]
Oh, though I suppose that does mean you won our little wager, doesn't it? Killing that walking corpse probably counted for at least two cougars.
[...only two????]
no subject
Okay no.
Though, he considered the other man's words after that. Well, he did help in killing that, so he supposed that did count after all—hey wait a minute. ]
...Even if that weird guy was practically half-dead he should at least count for five cougars, seein' as he shot two of our guys faster than a cougar could count.
But yeah, it means that I did win...and that ya should totally treat me to some drinks after this!
no subject
[yeager no............]
no subject
Though he's grinning, if anything. ]
I'll remember you said that, Yeager. A man's word is his bond after all!
no subject
Of course, Lancer. I wouldn't dream of going back on my word!
