WEEK THREE
THIRD WEEK
While very few things have been made entirely clear since you've been here, one thing certainly seems to have been: there are no more survivors. There's no one else to watch out for, but there's no one that you're going to be able to save, either.
You are truly and utterly on your own.
With two of your number injured, it's likely that this isn't a welcome thought; it also means that the going may be slower than anyone would really like. Unfortunate, as this is where the hike starts becoming more difficult; it isn't particularly treacherous - there are no steep dropoffs or cliffs to be wary of, and it is still hiking more than climbing - but the paths are becoming steeper, requiring more exertion to traverse. It will give you time, however, to pay attention to your surroundings, and the way they start to shift around you - almost as though in response to your presence itself.
It's simple things at first - a familiar flower, a plant you used to see all the time back home. Perhaps it will even feel nostalgic for a moment before you realize that it has no business being here. Some of the changes are small - glasswing butterflies with wings the shades and colors of real stained glass, beetles with their hard backs glittering in jewel tones that serve no real purpose. Occasionally the bark of the nearby trees have cracked open, wood splitting to reveal inner mechanisms and gears like clockwork.
Some of the changes are reflected in you as well - or perhaps Wesker's words simply have you thinking too much. The notion that the Shimmer resides in you seems impossible; after all, you don't feel any different.
It begs the question, though.
Have your fingerprints always moved like that?

[Because frankly, he can't make sense of it otherwise, and hearing that a plant from Felicia's home is here too - growing in a place it shouldn't grow, at that - is just making things worse.]
It... [Is it nice?] It is, yes! A little reminder of home here.
[...It isn't nice at all, actually.]
no subject
Either way, Felicia will nod in agreement, adjusting the flowers in her arms again before just...deciding she doesn't want to think about it, honestly.]
So, what brings you over here? [Briefly, her gaze brightens a bit.] Did you want to come pick some flowers too?
no subject
Well, mostly I came to make sure you didn't get left behind, but that sounds like a wonderful idea! Might as well weave some of them together when we stop for the night, ja?
[There we go, something else he can focus on. It's almost too easy to slip back into his usual persona, like nothing ever happened.]
no subject
Aw, well, thank you! I kind of did stray a little bit, didn't I...sorry for the trouble, but thank you for looking out for me! Let's get some more flowers, then!
[At any rate, though--]
I honestly can't decide if I want to make more crowns or bracelets or if I want to try that style Zolf has. I might just grab enough flowers for both, maybe...
no subject
Your hair is certainly long enough for it! I did see our friend do it back in town, so I'm sure I can figure out how she did it. Oh, and Kimbley knows, of course!
[can you imagine trying to weave flowers into yeager's stupid bangs. horrible. this is the worst mental image so i'm inflicting it on you.
Anyway, we are gonna have so many flowers, it'll be great.]
...I'm surprised he lets you call him Zolf! He didn't seem very fond of it when I tried it.
no subject
I'll try it myself first, but if I need any help, at least I know there are people I can go to! Knowing me and my track record with this, it'll likely have to be sooner rather than later...
[Either way we are absolutely gonna have more flowers than god at this point. But Felicia looks over when Yeager says that, eyes widening before looking away a little sheepish.]
Really? He didn't? That's odd...he was just kind of confused about it when I did it. [that whole situation was so dumb and embarrassing] Well, he did say he hadn't been called by his given name in a long time, so maybe that makes sense! He said I could call him whatever I wanted, though, so that's usually what I go with. It's nice and easy to remember.

It's a very fun name! "Kimbley" isn't bad, though. [this is because it's a different fantasy german, isn't it.] I suppose sometimes people do prefer their surname, but that's a bit strange where I come from. Some of the knights do that; it seems to be based on personal preference.
[Captain Flynn, Captain Schwann, Commandant Alexei, Captain Cumore?????? One of these is not like the others.]
no subject
It's pretty strange where I come from too; pretty much everyone where I come from goes by their given name solely. But I guess I can see where it might be preferable to use one's surname. If they've got a silly first name, or something like that...
[there's no gentle way of saying "what the fuck is a last name, do they even exist", fire emblem just be like that]
no subject
Some people don't have surnames where I'm from. I'm one of them! Others use them to designate a lineage; that's typical of nobles, at least.
[That's Surnames 101, you're welcome.]
One of the knights I worked with exclusively went by surname; I wouldn't have even known it wasn't his given name if I hadn't done my research on him before accepting his contract!
[That's not exactly how it went, but that's close enough.]
no subject
Huh...well, that does make sense, I suppose.
[about as much sense as anything else, really]
What was his name?
no subject
no subject
[that's so silly though. what the fuck.]
At any rate, he's free to do what he wants, I suppose. [And this should be enough flowers for now, at least.] I think I've got enough here! What about you? Shall we get going, if we've got all we need?
