Descent.
CHAMBERS.
You've been down here for such a long time.
It's difficult to tell, perhaps, exactly how long it's been; the lack of need to sleep or eat has become more and more prevalent as time goes by, and it's made it difficult to keep to any sort of schedule - and while the darkness remains unyielding and unchanging, the same can't be said for yourself, now, can it? The further you go, the more it feels like maybe you could belong here; the longer you're within this place, the less it seems to want to let go of you.
It begs the question, really: Is it the mine that's making you feel that way, or is it the Shimmer itself?
Something is different today.
There's a sudden feeling that you've found a chamber, that the shaft you've been wandering down has opened up in a way that's more noticeable than the occasional offshoot leading to an eventual dead end - this feels massive, open in a way that clears the air and spreads out far enough in front of you that it's difficult to tell how far out it actually goes. There are a few promising signs here, however, even if you can't see them very well - the sudden clearing of the air's stagnation is one, but the sound of running water trickling through here somewhere is also promising.
There's also a feeling that should be familiar by now; namely, it's the general sensation that you aren't alone, wherever you are.
You've found something, but perhaps more importantly, you get the feeling that you're coming far closer to your goal than you were on the outside; don't get too excited, though, as you still want to be careful - after all, this chamber opens downward as well as outward.
You can get down to the lower level if you pick your way down; it shouldn't be too challenging, and you'll probably have an easier time seeing once you're down there. Just don't fall.

...
Oh, this was a mistake.]
...There's...the limbs, I guess...
[This is fine. This is fine! There's absolutely nothing wrong here, this is just dandy and homelike. Oh gods, Felicia hates everything, this is the worst, she's trying not to scream honestly.
Alright, well. She's gonna be shining light around more of the tree--anything else of note here? Are the leaves doing anything fucky, if there are any? ...Do the eyes react to the light if she shines it briefly. This is so bad but MAY AS WELL...GET ALL THE INFORMATION SHE CAN.......]

The leaves seem to be thin crystal formations stemming from cracks and crevices in the limbs themselves, seeming to originate from the inside. They themselves aren't doing anything horrible, though.]

Sorry, um...all of you in there. I won't let that happen again.
[let's. let's attempt being polite to the horror tree. maybe it'll work??? maybe it'll be nice.
...]
I hope it's not rude to ask, but...if any of you can understand us...would it be quite alright for you to give us one of your leaves? I don't want to just take without permission.
[At least the leaves aren't horrific. That's something. Even if she could stand to not be talking to the tree.]

...I'm sorry for this. But I'll only take a second, okay?
[...Alright, she's just. Gonna go over to one of the branches, steeling herself briefly as she tries to take hold of a leaf--trying not to pull too much, but also keeping track of the tree itself. Provided there's no ill reaction when the leaf is touched (because Felicia is keeping track of those eyes), Felicia's gonna put her gun away, take out one of her shuriken and just...very quickly cut off a leaf, if she can.]

[Yeah, no, he's good over here, not touching the weird fleshy horror person-tree with braided limbs and rolling eyes. He's not even going to shine his light at it because first of all, the descriptions are enough. Second of all, he's... still got that one journal. Hm.]
I see.
[He sees so much thanks.]
One of them wrote about it.
[It's getting more horror genre writing by the minute.]

[I mean, hopefully it isn't a hostile tree??? That's the real hope here. But also: valid, Jean. You may be better off for staying the hell over there.]

But it was still coherent, in a way.
[There's something unsettling about a coherent message from the literal treepeople, but I guess given what all's happening downthread, they're about to go all the way down this uncanny valley? Wonderful.]
no subject
...Those poor people. None of them deserved this. If they're still coherent in such a state...
[Well, considering what people are discussing...Felicia's just gonna go back over and let them do their thing, sighing.]
...What everyone else is discussing may be a mercy to them.

[Even if they managed to destroy the Shimmer or whatever was the root of this -- so many of the changes out there don't seem like an instant revert. Aside from the death and the vanished people sculptures, anyway.
Actually, the vanished people sculptures might have been the better deal.]

Still, Felicia is going to look at Jean and just...]
...Are you going to be alright?
no subject
It's not a smiling sort of day, but it seems sincere enough.]
We aren't a tree yet.
[Not an answer, not even a new line, but still sort of there.]
You?

[Felicia beams, a bit tiredly, but attempting to have some pep.]
We should keep our spirits up.
