Visions.

The further in you go, the thicker the calcification becomes.

The crystals on the walls are difficult to make out now, having been encased entirely by thick white growths encompassing the walls like spider veins, like roots; their energy, however, can still be felt if you wander too close to the walls, or if you spend too long recovering yourself after something sufficiently stressful has come into your line of view. This may be more for a problem for some of you than it is for others; some of you are holding up surprisingly well, all things considered.

It isn't a failing on your part, when it hits you.

It's hard to say precisely what "it" is - a sudden fatigue, a seizure, an abrupt swirling of the world beneath your feet; all you know is that you're here, and then you aren't anywhere, and it takes a moment to place what brought the feeling on, or even what the feeling itself is. It will come to you eventually, however, once your eyes refocus and the cavern comes into view again for you properly - it feels like that first week you were here. Like reawakening after a long stint asleep; like being disoriented after realizing that you're not where you should be.

The difference this time is that you are, for all intents and purposes, still where you should be.

You don't seem to have gone anywhere; it doesn't feel like you've lost that much time, even, if you've lost any at all. But the fact of the matter is that something feels different, and it feels wrong, and placing how proves to be difficult.

There's a bend in the path, and suddenly it becomes all too clear.

You aren't supposed to be here, are you?

This place can be anything and everything - the hallway in the upper floor of your house, the bar you frequent, that place where all your comrades are buried. What matters is that it's somewhere you weren't sure you would see again, but the fact of it is that you're seeing it here, and you're seeing it now, and perhaps some of the others with you are seeing it too. Perhaps there are others here, those that have been on your mind for the past few days; perhaps you're all alone outside of whomever is questionably fortunate enough to be experiencing this with you.

Whatever you're seeing, however, something remains present in your mind, driving you onward and encouraging you to move through this, and quickly.

You don't belong here.

You need to leave.

[OOC: Welcome to the first half of our week 5 event! For this portion of the event, the hallucinations you've experienced up until now have become far more thoroughly immersive, and can be seen or experienced by others in something akin to a shared dream-state. These visions are likely to delict something from your world that you would find familiar and would have some sort of attachment to, whether that attachment is positive or negative. Monsters or other people from your world can be present here and interacted with, to deal with as you see fit; fighting them or speaking to them are both fair game. Conversely, your personal experience may be exploring or revisiting an area of your world that may or may not be how you remember it...

Please note that the mods will not be NPCing any characters in your visions or answering questions specific to the environments that you create. However, you are free to create as you see fit; time and space have very little meaning here, and your only limitations to your character's personal illusion/dreamscapes are your own creativity. Feel free to post any prompts you may want to play with, and to tag out to others to experience whatever they want to show you. (However, it is worth noting that any physical items you find in the visions will not remain in their possession afterwards.) As always, if you have any more questions about how works, let us know!]

And presumably ended up taking out some people that didn't deserve it in the process.

[He gets it, sort of.]

I'm not trying to say I was right in doing what I did. It made sense to me at the time, and there wasn't much point in doing anything else. People like me don't tend to live to see thirty and I know it.

Shame about your friend, though.

Something like that.

[we will never know the truth because the writers are cowards who retconned an Obvious Death Scene into an Ambiguously Hospitalization Scene and i will never forgive them, that security officer will remain dead in my heart, R.I.P. mister innocent security man]

I guess you had time to come to terms with that, in here.

[Yusei looks up, frowning.]

He wasn't able to do the same...but somehow, he was given a second chance. Maybe this time...

[Anyways. Enough of reminiscing. Yusei looks around, curious.]

So what are we doing back here, anyway? It seems a little too real to just be another illusion.

[oh, that's gross. we can't even blame that on shit localization.]

No idea, actually. I figure the Shimmer is doing something, but I'm not sure what.

[shakes fist. executive meddliiiiiiiing!11!!1]

...You haven't been seeing things from home lately, have you?

[Because Yusei sure has, and it wasn't fun.]

Is this just a natural escalation...?
alchemicals: (002.)

[personal profile] alchemicals 2020-08-21 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
...Yeah, a little bit. That guy I knew from the field. Some other guy I spent some time with. Generally people that make me feel some kind of way, even if I don't know what. I haven't said anything because I'm pretty sure they're not here and I didn't want to sound crazy. ...Crazier, I guess.

[that and the player has been. astoundingly sick and then had a birthday yesterday, but we can also assume kimbley found his one shred of decorum.]

It might just be an escalation, then, though I don't really know...why. If it's doing this on purpose or what.

[hap birf]

...Same here. I've been seeing my father here and there, so it's not like they're pulling memories at random...

[People, that as Kimbley so eloquently said, make him feel some kind of way.]

It's...clearly trying to mess with our heads somehow. But I can't figure out what benefit it would get from bringing these things up.

[personal profile] alchemicals 2020-08-21 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Wearing us down, maybe. I don't know, it seems able to suggest things, even if it doesn't directly harm anyone. People are more willing to do what you want if you torture them first.

[Maybe even weird shit like lie down in a field and die, or give yourself over in prayer and turn into a tree.]

[personal profile] planetary_bonds 2020-08-21 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[At that, Yusei smiles wryly.]

So it brings up these moments in our past to further antagonize us. Sounds familiar.

[Appealing to the darkness in their hearts...]

Still, this place...I guess your time here affected you more than you thought, if it came up?

[that's kind of mean, yusei.]
alchemicals: (012.)

[personal profile] alchemicals 2020-08-21 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[thankfully he tends to find yusei entertaining. now is one of those times where he does.]

You don't spend ten years in a room in the dark without getting at least some dislike for enclosed spaces, I even told Rideaux that I'm claustrophobic before we came in here. So naturally, we're dragged into a fucking mineshaft for days.

[personal profile] planetary_bonds 2020-08-21 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[oh, good. yusei's already had a lifetime's worth of kiryu trying to kill him.]

The Shimmer was just preparing you for this, obviously.

[stop.]
alchemicals: (005.)

[personal profile] alchemicals 2020-08-21 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Clearly.

[...]

So what do you think it's going to do eventually? The Shimmer.
planetary_bonds: (polished by me) (gettin' real tired of your bullshit)

[personal profile] planetary_bonds 2020-08-21 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, we could all be trees already and not know it. Maybe even one big tree, like before.

[Clearly, that's the logical thing to think when you're suddenly in some other person's memory hellscape or whatever!!!]

But honestly, I couldn't guess. The different things we've seen...although the easiest answer is that we'd all just die, like so many before us.

[Yusei shrugs, his contemplative face returning back to its normal impassive state.]

I'd rather not think that, though.

...Do you ever wonder what the hell the criteria is? As in, what determines whether you get a calm pretty death in a field or whether you and twenty of your friends get mashed into one big organism like that.

[kimbley no]

...I always figured it had something to do with the threat level that group represented. How close they got to the truth of things, or destroying the Shimmer, or something like that...

[He puts a hand to his mouth, thinking.]

Like, if you had the time to slowly turn into a plant, or mess with their heads long enough that they'd lie down and let you finish the job, then there's no need for the extra effort of suddenly smashing everyone together in one big death pile, right?
alchemicals: (010.)

[personal profile] alchemicals 2020-08-21 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
...That makes sense, actually. It did say that it doesn't want to hurt or kill us, so if it can do it peacefully it will, but if it's a matter of survival, into the giant people-cluster we go.

[personal profile] planetary_bonds 2020-08-21 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[Weak smile.]

Hope you're ready to get to know each other a lot better.

[yusei, that's awful, but also good for you for vaguely affirming that you're threatening the shimmer's life, i guess?]
alchemicals: (005.)

[personal profile] alchemicals 2020-08-21 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[It definitely gets him to laugh, holy shit.]

God. Emma is going to have the time of her life, isn't she.

[NICE PEOPLE SAYING WONDERFUL THINGS.]
planetary_bonds: (Almost a smile. Not quite.)

[personal profile] planetary_bonds 2020-08-21 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably.

[Okay fine, he'll chuckle a little.]

Maybe having one person being happy about it in the group will make the rest of us feel better.
